Welcome to the official site of TEAM CANADA ZAKOPANE 2010 .

We are a volunteer group of Polish-Canadians representing Canada at the Polish International Winter Games. Our group consists of individuals who vary in their experience from the novice right up to former professional athletes. Every participant is a valuable member of our TEAM.

Polish International Olympic style Games are winter games that take place every 2 years at the mountains of Poland. Poles living abroad come to Poland to compete in Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowboarding, Luge, Short-Track Skating, Long Track Speedskating and Ski Jumping in five age categories. The games receive a huge media coverage in Poland and around the world through TV Polonia satellite broadcast. The 2010 games will be in Zakopane, the most famous winter resort in Poland.

In 2008 Team Canada placed first amongst 700 Poles who represented 26 countries such as USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, France, Australia, just to mention a few. We brought home 13 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze medals. This would not have been possible without our sponsors whose continued support helped us to get where we are today. Zakopane, the largest and best-known tourism and sports center in Poland, is willingly visited both in summer and in winter. The city, numbering 28 thousand residents, obtained localization act in 1933. Zakopane is situated in a valley at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, the highest mountain range in this part of Europe. With the altitude of 740-1000 meters above the sea level, it has a convenient localization facilitating access by road or train. It lies in the vicinity of three border crossings of substantial importance for the international traffic, while the insignificant distance from airports in Krakow-Balice and Katowice-Pyrzyce makes it easily accessible for people arriving from around the world. It has hotels of high standard as well as dozens of cosy pensions offering the arrivals a comfortable and attractive leisure.
